The New San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Will Hack Your Senses

Recording Museum Hack's first ever audio tour for SFMOMA

Museum Hack provides their first ever audio tour for the redesigned SFMOMA

This summer, visitors of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art will be able to enjoy the quintessential Museum Hack experience through the SFMOMA iOS app. Museum Hack stays true to their mission statement; applying their renegade motif in their first ever audio tour. Lia Tamborra and Ethan Angelica worked extensively with SFMOMA to develop the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art’s Museum Hack audio tour. These veteran Museum Hack tour guides spent countless hours researching the SFMOMA exhibits to deliver the controversial facts and unknown history of which Museum Hack tours are renown. The SFMOMA Museum Hack audio tour provides the fun and immersive information that visitors expect from an in-person Museum Hack tour.

After three years of renovation, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art reopened their doors May 14th. The redesigned SFMOMA is an architectural treasure, designed in San Francisco’s image, a living wall of plants greets visitors upon entry to the new third floor gallery. SFMOMA didn’t just remodel their building, they reimagined the museum experience. Through an exclusive partnership with Detour, the museum provides patrons a curated audio experience like never before. Guests can sync their physical tour with digital audio that follows them throughout the museum. As Rene Chun of Wired explains, “it uses your phone’s location-sensing tech to precisely triangulate your position in the museum based on a hi-res virtual map created for the museum by Apple. That way it knows exactly where you are and where you’re going—and adjusts its audio accordingly”.

Museum Hack is honored to be among the audio tour options on SFMOMA's mobile app. We absolutely loved hacking their audio tour experience, uncovering new ways to use our techniques and style to give visitors a one-of-a-kind museum experience. We can't wait to see the app in action when SFMOMA reopens this month
